On July 18, 2024, the City of Los Angeles released a draft of a proposed ordinance that would ban rodeo and bull-riding events. If the ordinance passes, the following activities will be banned
in the City of Los Angeles:

“Bareback Bronc Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, or any other activity that involves physically wrestling an animal to the ground, roping an animal, or attempting to ride and remain mounted on a bucking animal.”

Rodeo Isn't Dead In Los Angeles
Just Yet, Despite Some
Incorrect Reports.

It was apparent in Mr. Bloomenfield's demeanor and pleads to the committee during the council debate, he didn't want the ordinance returning to committee for further discussion, which also grants input by stakeholders, an option that previously had been withheld from the rodeo and Charriera communities.

The immense gathering and response by a diverse and dedicated community to save rodeo, had a significant impact on City Council members, swaying their decision to unanimously vote to pass the amended ordinance which in turn, sends it back to the city attorney for a re-draft and committee vote.

Although the ordinance still hasn't been stopped, this is a win for the rodeo industry and an opportunity for a seat at the table and our voices to be heard.
